"Lola Johnson brings a jazz singer's soul and vocal acrobatics into the acoustic singer-songwriter arena. Johnson's voice is so smooth and silky that every song sounds like she is reviving a standard"

"Every time I see Lola Johnson perform Rosemary, it gives me a glimpse of what it must have been like to see Jeff Buckley play live somewhere on the lower east side, pre-Grace, just to witness something that remarkable undiscovered. With all its sultry charm, the song exudes a gritty warmth akin to the city's favorite somber poets. Watching her play, I can't help but think I am watching the genesis of some sort of new cool.
Her music is the sound of late at night, a red wine buzz - the safety of drunkenness. It is both beautiful and challenging, drawing influence from jazz, funk, and rock. Her words are at times dark, which is not to say that they are void of hope. Quite to the contrary, both musically and lyrically, Lola makes tunes that make you feel good.
With refreshing recollections of a time when music mattered, Lola has designed an EP entirely in her own voice that defies all the comparisons that can be made but are not necessary. Her exploration of rhythm and general songwriting prowess is evident in this first collection of songs, and her voice stands out just as a budding legend's might: powerful and memorable."

"Lola Johnson captures a jazz singer's sensibility within the framework of contemporary folk arrangements. Her amazing voice is placed front and center in these beautiful songs. The backing band plays softly underneath. Controlled, well-developed melodies, various imagery, and clever plays on the traditional ("sticks and stones may break my brittle bones") are subtle differences that separate the adequate from the pros. Johnson is a pro."
